Tips for Recycling Scrap Metal

With the auto salvage industry taking off, the United States alone has been able to save 142 million tons of metal materials from landfills and dumps. As great as this is, we are still the world's largest producers of trash (1600 pounds/person each year) and as the population increases, the land for our trash is shrinking.  There are several ways to do your part and help decrease the volume of trash we send to the landfills.  One of the more popular solutions is recycling metals.  Not only is this great for the environment, it is a great way to make some extra cash  as well!

You can go to a local scrap yard and sell any type of metal in any quantity you have.  There are several metal objects you throw away around the house.  Being conscious about saving metal objects for recycling is the first step to making some extra money.  The next step is finding a scrap yard with the best scrap metal prices in your area so you can be most profitable.

Here are the top metals you can sell:

The most popular is aluminum cans.  Aluminum is a great recycled metal that can be put into production in less than 75 days.
Pop cans can be recycled into vehicle parts, doors, window frames, other pop cans, etc.  Today's going rate for aluminum cans is .55 per pound and changes daily.  Just saving your pop cans and taking a trip each month to your recycle center can put

The most profitable metal to sell is copper.  Copper can be found in household items such as wires, pipes and  parts from your appliances like air conditioner coils.  Today's going rate for copper is $3.35 per pound and varies daily.

Steel is another metal that you can recycle and is used in many products over and over again.  Used car parts are a good example of steel metals.

Lead is heavy which makes it a valuable metal when you talk about recycling.  It is another metal that can be melted down and made into new pipes.

These are just some of the most popular metals you can recycle at a Denver scrap yard.  "Scrappin'" can be a profitable little business and a great way to do your part in saving the environment.

  1. This is so neat! I didn't know that you could get paid for your scrap metal. I live in Vancouver, and finding out about this makes recycling seem so much more enticing. Do you know of any places in Vancouver that will buy my recycled scrap metal?
